| PETER PILFOLD: My name is Peter Pilfold and I am a Tsimshian First Nations from Prince
Rupert, BC. I came to Emily Carr through a mobility program from the Ontario College of
Art and Design. After studying in Toronto for two years I earned the Josephine M. Harper
Memorial Scholarship for Drawing and Painting and a Printmaking Scholarship. I also earned
a position with a team of artists from OCA to study in Florence, Italy for one year. After
returning to BC, I was permitted to graduate while on Mobility and received a Diploma for
Multi-Media form OCA.
While at Emily Carr I also entered the Studio Diploma
program for painting and printmaking of which I graduated last May. I am continuing to
study for my Bachelors Degree for Fine Art through Emily Carr. My artwork has been greatly
inspired by my envolvement in the First Nations Awareness Day Event and the First Nations
Student Art Exhibition held at Emily Carr in 1996-1997. My work for this exhibition brings
my painting full circle. I painted landscapes in Northern BC and Alaska, and it is that
love of the land that I celebrate here.
